There is a HUGE Health Cost involved in both of these manners of attempting to lose weight and if you ever talk to someone who has done one, they will tell you, RUN the other way!!
*** As you read this next section... please keep in mind, if you have kidney issues, heart issues or other health issues, some of these "Brand Name Diets" can actually HARM you further than where you are currently with those issues. And sometimes talking to your Health Practitioner about "Diets or Dieting" is absolutely useless!!! Because most of them know nothing about Nutrition. When you consider they go to school to learn about DISEASES and DEATH... seriously! The first thing they work on or with is DEAD BODIES to figure out what killed them, to understand DISEASES.... and some actually pay an individual to sit in the Nutrition Classes (which are NOT mandatory) just so they can get the credit. Don't believe me... do your own research! ***
I just had a conversation at my daughter's Allergist Clinic with a very sweet lady there. We were having our weekly chat about weight issues etc... and I mentioned "protein diets" to her. She was like BIG EYED ah!!! She's cute lol!
She shared her story of what happened to her when she attempted the "easy road" by eliminating carbs from her diet. She said she almost lost her kidneys from it.
Is that possible? YOU BETCHA!!! along with a lot of other major health risks!
Our Brain is 2/3rds Fat, so when someone calls you a "Fathead", its not an insult, its true! lol!! And the ONLY food our brain wants is Glucose. *Remember the anything that ends in "ose" is a sugar lesson?*
This particular sugar is ONLY made available through the consumption of Carbohydrates like Whole Grain, Pasta, Rice and Cereals (small list, there are more) and the Brain is NOT the only part of our body that wants this food either.
Have you ever seen the Marathons/Iron Man Competitions where the people are all over the place trying to get to the finish line, they almost look like they are drunk or have something taking over their body and they can't quite control it?
Its because they have completely and utterly depleted their bodies of Glycogen, which is Fuel used by our Muscles.
And here is where we need to have an "ah huh" moment... The Heart.
Yes, its an Organ but, it is also a MUSCLE! and it is THE MOST important Muscle in the body! You can lose a leg muscle and live no problem, an arm muscle, no biggie but, not your heart.
Clinical Studies on Athletes in the past few years have revealed that there is a "scaring" of the heart that takes place with over training, in particular, pushing the body too far without proper Glycogen or Carbohydrates.
How does this apply to the individual?
A person who "diets" and uses one of the "brand name" diets or goes out on their own to lose weight, you can see the effects of what happens through their weight loss... if their kidneys or heart don't react first.
One of the things you will notice on these people is the LACK of muscle tone, they have what I refer to as "chicken drumsticks" for legs. You know, skinny ankles and bigger thighs with no muscle definition.
Same thing with the arms, no muscle definition at all.
And the reason for the strain on the body is due to the body being in a state of "starvation" for Glucose to convert to Energy (Glycogen) to feed the muscles to move the body... so what it will do, is take the fat or the protein we are eating and "attempt" to convert it to a form of energy chain to feed the muscles. AND your BRAIN!
It truly can NOT do this so there is a lot of waste by-product that has to be excreted from the body, thus, the additional strain on the kidneys.
Do a search on the internet with this word: "ketogenic" to understand what happens to the Kidneys and the way your body will attempt to convert what it needs... its kinda like YOU trying to get water out of sand by squeezing it till your hands bleed. Restricting your carbohydrate intake to nil or next to nil will cause ketosis to begin. Look it up! Educate yourself so that when the next diet crazy/phase comes knocking, you will know exactly why you want to avoid it!
Every notice the WARNING labels on Protein Shake Packaging? It states that it is NOT to be used for Dieting and for Good reason!!
So a person MIGHT be thin, they MIGHT think they are okay but, what you do to your body, WILL cost you... either your heart, your kidneys or your brain!
Speaking of the Brain... people that do these diets for any length or time... if you have a chance to be around them on a regular basis, you will begin to believe they are Bi-polar!! The mood swings for one...
They see themselves as having "emotional issues" and will blame it on all kinds of other things in their lives as "triggers". THEY ARE Emotional, mores so than normal and its because they are NOT thinking clearly! They are NOT giving their brain the food it needs!
Do a simple search on the internet with these words: "dangers of protein diets" and then look for a Medical Site and READ up on it, Educate yourself why these diets and LOW Calorie diets DON'T WORK! And never will.
SKINNY DOES NOT EQUAL HEALTHY... ♥
There is also another health issue that can happen as a result of dieting and using Protein as your main source of fuel and pretty much eliminating or minimizing Carbs (carbohydrates) down too low.
FATTY LIVER DISEASE
For an individual who is overweight by any manner for any length of time, there is a risk of developing this "disease" as well but, to use one of the main stream diets out there that promote eating high amounts of protein and reducing or eliminating Carbs completely, can also cause this to happen. Especially an individual were to eat proteins from Animal Sources, such as Beef or Pork in particular.
I can testify that I have a cousin who did one of the main stream diet plans, eat all the protein you want, no grains and fruits and veggies in moderation... she landed in the hospital with Fatty Liver Disease and her Kidneys to the point where they could have gone into renal failure.
The cute gal at my daughter's allergy clinic also said to me... just tell people, if they only knew what happens after you go back and START eating carbs again!!
Your body no longer trusts you and it will store up as much as it can, cause it never wants to go through that again... there is also a theory that this is linked to the "fat gene" and how it is triggered.
But, that's another topic for another day... speaking of which! Have a great one and avoid the High Protein NO Carb Diets!!! ♥
I will do up a list of Carbohydrate foods in the next couple of days..... there are GOOD Carbs and BAD Carbs...
Have a great day and keep moving!!! ♥

I decided to add a Quote or two here for your convenience.....
Dangers of Excessive Protein
Too much protein and not enough carbohydrates can cause ketones to collect in the blood (ketosis). People on high protein diets, such as the Atkins diet, are told that by being in constant ketosis they can lose weight because this forces the body to burn fat for energy. However, ketosis is dangerous because it can cause mild dehydration by placing a burden on the kidneys. Besides kidney problems, side effects can include headaches, dizziness, confusion, fatigue and nausea. Excessive protein in your diet also increases the risk of osteoporosis because of limited calcium intake. It also results in more acidic blood because when acids break up and enter the blood, it makes it acidic, disturbing the pH level.
An imbalance of extreme amounts of protein and not enough carbohydrates usually leads to less fiber, resulting in constipation. This can lead to hemorrhoids, polyps and even colon cancer. Other conditions include heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Hypertension (high blood pressure) can likewise be an effect of too much protein. Athletes who eat excessive protein don't perform as well due to the depletion of glycogen because of the body burning energy. Eating too much protein from fatty animal foods gives you too many high-fats, meaning added calories and weight gain. When you eat saturated fats, as well as transfats and cholesterol in foods, you increase the bad LDL cholesterol and the total level of cholesterol. When this happens, there's a greater chance of heart disease.
