RECIPE! Tiger (Meatless) Mini/Maxi Burgers

This week, I set out to create a Healthy, Fiber filled, Meatless burger for my family.

It took a few days of trial and error but, the family really did enjoy this recipe.  Its an original!

I hope to create another Meatless Burger in the next few weeks ahead, I want to use TVP to see what I can create.

Enjoy and feed back is appreciated, either here or on FB, thanks!

MINI TIGER SLIDERS
Recipe Makes 15 Minis  OR 7 – 3oz Burgers

Ingredients:
1 Can Black Turtle Beans (Or Dried*)
¾ Cup Red Lentils
¼ Cup Onion Flakes
½ tsp Chipotle Powder
1 Tbsp Garlic Crushed
1 tsp Ground Cumin
1 Tbsp Basil
¼ tsp Sea Salt
½ tsp Black Pepper
¼ Cup Corn Meal
½ Cup Whole Wheat Bread Crumbs
1 Large Egg
1 Tbsp Grapeseed Oil
Olive Oil

Instructions:

Start early in the day or the night before to prepare these burgers, if you don’t, there is a good chance they will just fall apart in the pan or on the grill.

Rinse the Can of Black Turtle beans until the water runs clear.  Pour them into a bowl and mash with a potato masher.

*If you use dried, follow the instructions on the package, then mash. (Dried are best! NO Sodium)*

Add ALL the ingredients to the beans and mix until well mixed.

Cover and put it in the refrigerator for 2 hours or more.

After 2 hours, mix with a fork and pour 1 tsp of Olive Oil on your palms, this will prevent the patties from sticking to you. (Repeat as needed)

Pinch out the desired size of your burger and shape into a patty, the maximum size is 3oz, remember, these will not shrink down.  To make the minis 1.5 oz each and place on a wax paper covered plate.  **YOU can add more breadcrumbs to the tops if you like but, it will change the calorie count slightly**

Add 1 Tbsp of Grapeseed Oil to the pan and make sure to spread it around the surface.  Use a medium heat to heat the pan before you add the burgers.

Cook the burgers on a medium heat, approx 4-5 minutes per side, keeping an eye on them, when they brown, they are finished.

Mini Burger Buns are available at most Zehrs Grocery stores OR you can use a flat bun for a regular size (3oz) Burger.

The Cheese Pictures on the Burger is a Soy based at 44 Calories a slice. Available in most Grocery stores. “Galaxy Nutrition Veggie Slices” in Mozzarella, Canadian Cheddar and JalapeƱo flavors.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS: other than cheese and condiments, you could add a Spicy Salsa for a tastier burger.  OR you can add Hummus for a condiment.  I think the Garlic Hummus would be amazing!

TOTALLY VEGAN RECIPE: To make this recipe Vegan, replace the Egg with any one of the following OR you can buy a liquid egg replacement at your local Health Food Store.  OPTIONS: 1 tbsp gram chick pea flour or soya flour and 1 tbsp water OR 1 tbsp arrowroot, 1 tbsp soya flour and 2 tbsp water  OR 50g tofu blended with add 2 Tbsp Water

CALORIES: Minis are 110 Calories Each without a bun / 3oz Burger 220 Calories. Buns Minis are 55 calories / Regular flats 100-110 Calories.

Psssst… I called them Tiger Burgers cause they’re Black and Orange when the lentils soften.
The Salad Recipe is after this one
